eBay recently announced a new fee structure to start Feb. 20, 2008, that will lower initial insertion fees, but increase final sale fees. The change has a big impact on sales over $25.01 and it has many sellers hoppin’ mad. Many are calling for a strike from Feb. 18-25th and others plan to close their accounts and start selling at Amazon or other auction sites.
AuctionBytes.com ran some numbers and determined that listing fees would go up as much as 33% depending on the number of items sold and final sales price. I have to admit, that’s a pretty steep jump.
On the other hand, eBay offers a great deal of resources to help people start selling quickly and safely, plus its brand recognition and value.
As you may tell, I don’t sell on eBay very often. Only when I need some quick cash and its not books (which I sell on Amazon). I’d be interested to hear comments from regular eBayers.
